The goldfish's origin is China. It was first bred there as pets around 960 AD -1300 AD it was soon introduced to Japan by 1500 AD , there fancy varieties were developed. Goldfish then soon spread to other countries such as Europe, Austrailia, and North America.

∙ 14y agoGoldfish are not wild animals, however what you could be referring to as "wild goldfish" may very well be the fish they descended from; the carp. The Carp in which goldfish descended originated in Ancient China.
