How many prototype nuclear powered jet engines were built and tested?

Most records about Nuclear Powered aircraft are classified, just like the Nuclear Submarines. The United States has only published one record of a Nuclear Powered aircraft. The program was cancelled in 1958, due to complications.

Does Radiation can affect pregnant woman?

Yes. One of many reasons why Waves are not permitted to serve on Submarines, most of which are nuclear powered.

How is nuclear energy gather or created?

Nuclear energy is not gathered or created. There is a saying to go along with this: Energy cannot be created or destroyed, only changed in form. That saying is called the Law of the Conservation of Energy. Nuclear is a type of potential energy so this concept applies to it. There are many ways nuclear energy can be used. Lets say submarines. Most people have heard of the nuclear powered submarines. They can stay under water for a long time because they have basically unlimited energy. The submarines are powered by a nuclear reactor causing a series of nuclear reactions. The submarine uses the nuclear reactions as power. Generally it will get converted to mechanical or electrical energy (both types of Kinetic energy).

What energy is used today to power submarines?

Nuclear energy is used to power most modern submarines

Are there any submarines named Juliet?

There are no known submarines named Juliet. However, the name Juliet is used by NATO to identify a class of Soviet submarines that are no longer in operation. It was a diesel-electric submarine capable of launching cruise missiles. Most American World War II submarines were named after species of fish. Most early nuclear-powered submarines were named after World War II submarines. The first generation of nuclear-powered ballistic submarines were named after famous Americans. Most Los Ageles-class fast attack submarines are named after U.S. cities, with the exception of the USS Hyman G. Rickover. Most Ohio-class guided missle and ballistic missile submarines are named after U.S. states, with the USS Henry M. Jackson being the exception. The Virginia-class fast attack submarines are mostly named after U.S. states. The lone exception as of January 2011 is the John Warner, which is expected to be delivered in 2015.

How many engines submarine have?

Most submarines now have a single nuclear reactor. Some smaller, coastal submarines have a single diesel.

How many Nuclear powered ships does the Navy have?

Some 140 ships are powered by more than 180 small nuclear reactors and more than 12,000 reactor years of marine operation has been accumulated. Most are submarines, but they range from icebreakers to aircraft carriers.

How are submarines named?

Most American World War II submarines were named after species of fish. Most early nuclear-powered submarines were named after World War II submarines. For example the submarine USS Tunny in World War II was designated SS-282. The nuclear-powered fast attack submarine USS Tunny was designated SSN-682. The first generation of nuclear-powered ballistic submarines were named after famous Americans. Most Los Angeles-class fast attack submarines are named after U.S. cities, with the exception of the USS Hyman G. In the USN they are generally code-named after Fish or other marine life- for example USS Whale ( SSN-638) USS Nautilus ( SSN-57l- first Nuclear sub) USS Ling ( SS-297) there are were several Sharks, and different types of sharks-both the Squalus ( latin for Shark) and Thresher ( a type of Shark with a large tail) were involved in fatal accidents the latter being an all-hands disaster, the first Nuclear sub involved in a fatal accident. The Navy isn't ignorant of politics either; the John Warner and other submarines and ships named after key individuals in the Navy and the Government were typically supportive of the Navy and military in general while serving on Congressional Armed Services Committees.

The worlds deepest and most silent nuclear submarine was built by whom?

As regards military submarines meant as warships, the Russians built the submarines with the deepest diving capability, but U.S. submarines generally make less noise.

Used to create nuclear powered reactors?

The most important component is the uranium fuel

What are todays's submarines powered by?

Todays Naval Submarines are either powered by a Nuclear Reactor or by Diesel Engine. Nuclear Powered Subs have the great advantage of only needing to refuel once every 20ish years. Where as Diesels can only last a matter of weeks before refuel. Diesels also have to go to periscope depth (only a few meters bellow the surface) to release fumes and take on more air, thus possibly giving away their position. This is how the majority of subs got spotted and sunk in ww2. However putting a Nuclear Reactor in a big metal tube with hundreds of men, a load of weapons and then sinking it undr the sea for months on end is a tricky business, meaning only the most well funded navys can do it (as far as I know only the UK (Royal Navy), US Navy, French and Russians use Nuclear powerd subs.
