In "Hatchet" by Gary Paulsen, Brian compares the mosquitoes and other bugs to fighter planes and helicopters because of their constant buzzing and attacking. This comparison highlights the intensity and constant annoyance of the bugs in the wilderness.
While Brian slept, a porcupine entered his shelter and tried to attack him. Brian awoke and the porcupine shot its quills at him, one of which hit his face. Brian was able to kill the porcupine and remove the quill from his face using his hatchet.

The setting for the book "Hatchet" by Gary Paulsen is in the late 20th century, specifically in 1988. The story follows the main character, Brian Robeson, as he survives alone in the Canadian wilderness after a plane crash.
Brian was motivated to go all the way on a slippery log to retrieve his drink because he was extremely thirsty and desperate for water. He had no other source of water available and knew that he needed to stay hydrated to survive in the wilderness.
Fire kept him warm gave him light kept animals away and kept the bugs off of him.
If you're referring to a catch phrase, like Bart Simpson's "Eat My Shorts" or Bugs Bunny's "What's Up Doc", Brian doesn't have one. Although if you're referring to the word Peter claims is Brian's favorite, that would be "Bonerific"

Scientists use control groups so that they have something to compare or contrast their independent variable to. Without a control group, they wouldn't have anything to prove if their experiment had any important change. For example, a scientist is trying to prove that the bugs in his garden is affecting his flowers. His control group would be a set-up without the bugs. He would have another set-up WITH bugs. After some time, he would compare the two. If he didn't have a control group, how would he know that the bugs affected his flowers at all? Maybe the flowers were changing due to another factor, but how would you know?
Yes it is and it smells bad.
