For 1998 year built BMWs the factory recommended coolants are as follows: The coolants should be nitrite and phosphate free. Over the counter a 50:50 dilution of Prestone G-05 to distilled water is excellent. The OEM BMW part# for their coolant in 1.5L bottles is 81229407454.
The 1998 BMW 323 car can safely hold 7 quarts of motor oil. It is not recommended that more than 7 be used.

BMW does not have a recommended millage for a transmission service on a 1997 540-I.
I would guess it would use BMW blue antifreeze. It has no phosphates.
