This is a little more complicated than it looks.

Broadly speaking you have two sides, the Allied powers and the Axis.

The Allies comprised of The British Empire, Poland, France, The United States of America, China, Russia and many countries that were invaded and fought as governments in exile like Poland. Some of these are The Netherlands, Luxembourg, Norway, Yugoslavia, Greece etc.

The Axis comprised of Germany, Japan, Italy and several minor countries. Some of these are Bulgaria, Finland, Hungary, Romania, etc.

Italy joined the Axis under Mussolini, but in 1943 after the invasion of Sicily he was ousted from power by some Italian generals in a coup. They then changed sides to the Allies, or the bit that was occupied by the Allies did, because many fought on the Axis side in the North where Mussolini had been reinstalled to power after being rescued by the Germans.

Then there's France, who after copitulation formed a pro-axis psedo neutral government known as the Vichy-French that controlled southern France and many of their colonies, whilst other colonies fought on as the Free French.

Then to add even more problems you have countries like Argentina which began neutral but pro-Axis, but as the war progresses they actively joined the Allied cause. Or Romania which was dragged into the war on the Axis side, then changed sides once the Russians had invaded them.

But all in all the easy answer is: Allies versus Axis powers.

The main Axis powers were Germany, Italy and Japan.

The main Allied powers were originally Britain, The French Resistance, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, but America and Russia joined later.

The allies were Britan, France, Italy, and America . The central powers were Germany turkey and other parts of Southern Europe.

The Axis (the losing side, eventually) was Germany, Italy and Japan.

The Allies were the United Kingdom, the United States and Russia.

Many other countries were involved to a lesser degree on both sides, but these six countries fielded the majority of the soldiers and for the most part controlled the ebb and flow of the war.
