Brown does not have SAT requirements specifically. Test scores are looked at as part of the overall application, along with your essay, recommendations, high school grades, etc. Brown actually has the widest range of SAT scores of any Ivy League school, possibly because the admissions office weighs essay and recommendations more highly.

Candidates to Brown University are chosen for their special abilities, accomplishments, energy for learning, thoughtfulness, perspective, and many other qualities. They do not base admission on a set of quantifiable criteria. Students in the class of 2015 have been admitted to Brown University with College Board Test Scores of less than 590 and ACT scores of less than 25.

You definitely need to get great grades…not just good grades, but great grades. A high GPA and high SAT scores are a must. After you accomplish this, start thinking about ways you can separate yourself from the competition. Extracurricular activates are very important. Lastly, make sure you want to go to Brown University. I know a lot of students that thought they wanted to go to their dream school, but when they got in and went to that school, they were really disappointed. Pay attention to what actual students of Brown University are saying. You can get information about the academic requirements here: http://www.unigo.com/brown_university/rankings/

If you are transferring to Brown from another college or university. The school typically looks for at least two solid semesters. However, this is only a part of what the school considers when making an admissions decision. They look at the entire individual and not just one or two parts of that individual. The school is competitive admitting only about 11% of those who apply. The admissions criteria is listed below.

Admission requirements:

  • Essay(s) required
  • Required: SAT Reasoning Test and SAT Subject Tests; or ACT
  • If submitting ACT, the writing section is required

Very important admission factors:

  • Character/Personal Qualities
  • Rigor of secondary school record
  • Talent/Ability
  • Level of Applicant's Interest

Important admission factors:

  • Class Rank
  • Application Essay
  • Extracurricular Activities
  • Recommendations
  • Standardized Test Scores

Considered:

  • Alumni Relation
  • Geographical Residence
  • Interview
  • Racial/Ethnic Status
  • State Residency
  • Volunteer Work
  • Work Experience
  • First generation college student

A note about the college's admission requirements: Strength of academic course load and student's achievement in courses most important. Extracurricular activities, recommendations, personal essay important; test scores strongly considered.
