∙ 15y agoSalat, the formal Muslim prayer offered a minimum of five times per day, must be performed on a clean surface. Muslims may offer salat on a specially manufactured clean cloth, referred to in English as a prayer mat (Arabic: sajadah). Some of tthese are beautifully made and very expensive, but others can be bought for less than a dollar. Prophet Muhammad (God bless him and grant him peace) had a small square of simple whilte cotton cloth on which he placed his face when praying outdoors.
