The album basicaly changed the way millions of people thought of music. The Beatles also stripped their clean cut good boy images. Sgt Peppers is full of drug references and others interestings topics.
the original album cover featured some butchered babies and the Beatles wearing some butcher clothing. it was the 60's back when stuff was taken way too seriously
Although it was sometimes denied back in the day, the Beatles chose that shot for Capitol Records to use on the cover as an "editorial comment" on the company "butchering" the Beatles American LP's. "Yesterday and Today" was the most offending album in that regard as it was a collection of singles, and songs left off the American versions of Rubber Soul and Revolver. Beginning with Sgt. Pepper's, Capitol Records never "butchered" a Beatles album again. Compare all the early British and American Beatles albums and see how they differ. Beatles VI in the US is another example. It's a combination of Beatles For Sale and the Help album. Capitol Records justified this practice by saying that the British albums crammed 14 tracks on their vinyls and that American albums had better quality with only 12 tracks. In reality, Capitol Records simply created one extra album for every three British albums. More product, more profit.
"'Yesterday' ...and Today ", an album only released in North America. Its cover originally showed the Beatles in white gowns (like a butcher's outfit) and surrounded by dolls and pieces of meat, having the appearance of dismembered infants. It caused an outcry, and a new cover was quickly pasted over the top.
They covered all genres of music, from rock, to rock ballads, to metal, to psychadelic. They were the punks of the 60's, and had such great music that you could not help liking them.
