No "battleship" was sunk by Bismarck. The "battlecruiser" HMS Hood was sunk by Bismarck on May 24, 1941. Battlecruisers do not have the armor that battleships are built with, being designed for speed and firepower.

Hood, however, was larger than any of the British battleships of World War II, and was one of the most heavily armed British capital ships.

HMS Hood.

HMS Hood was a battlecruiser and was not intended to engage a battleship especially one such as Bismarck which was at that time the biggest battleship afloat along with her sister ship Tirpitz. Basically Battlecruisers engaged cruisers and avoided Battleships. Bismarck actually weighed in at 53,000 tons against Hood at 42,000. It seems logical that every ton on a warship is there for a purpose so a disparity of 11,000 tons could represent quite a lot of armour. Hood was scheduled for amongst other things having her deck armour improved.

For sinking the British flag ship HMS Hood in a lucky hit. She was also famous due to the fact she has been incorrectly called the biggest and most powerful battleship of all time. Also due to the sheer determination to kill her in Britain has lead to her being remembered.

What was Germanys battleship called?

It was the BISMARCK battleship, which sank Britain's HOOD in 1941 and was sunk itself a few days later in the Atlantic Ocean close to Brest, France. NO it wasn't. It was the Tirpitz which hid in a Norwegian fjord and was bombed and sunk Tirpitz was 2 metres longer overall and 1200 tons heavier (basic displacement) Tirpitz never fought and so most people think the Bismarck was larger, it was only a similar ship. The Bismarck and Tirpitz were sisterships, but the Tirpitz was a bit larger. Bismarck inflicted severe damage on the British battleship Prince of Wales at the Battle of Denmark Strait, but it was probably the German heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen which sank the British battle cruiser Hood. The Tirpitz did venture into the Atlantic, but without the success of other German warships.

What date did the Bismarck sink?

27 May must be "battleship" day. The Bismarck was sunk (scuttled actually, according to Dr. Ballard's expedition) on 27 May 1941. Coincidentally, on that same day and month, history's only modern decisive battleship fleet action, which occurred on 27 May 1907, was fought; the Battle of Tsushima. 7 Russian battleships were sunk that day.

Where was the battle ship the 'Bismarck' sunk during World War 1?

The Bismarck was a 2nd World War Battleship not a First World War battleship. You are getting the ship confused with the man: "Otto von Bismarck" after whom the battleship was named. Bismarck was the Minister President of the Kingdom of Prussia, who then became the First Chancellor of the German Empire. To answer your question here's a map of where the Bismarck was sunk. http://www.warcovers.dk/greenland/bismarck_map.jpg

When was space aliens built in Bismarck?

The Bismarck was a German Battleship active, and eventually sunk- in World War II. in a notable battle she took out the HMS Hood within a few minutes- the Hood was a Battle-cruiser, with limited Deck armor but big cannons. I can"t see any connection. Star Cruiser Yamato dealt with a ( Space-adapted) Battleship but that was Japanese. The Yamato ( roughly,l Patriot) was sunk at the second battle for Okinawa, really the most decisive engagement of the !Pacific War- Battleship Down

Who had the Bismarck ship World War 2?

The battle cruiser Bismarck was a German fast battleship and was intended to be a commerce raider, sinking merchant vessels bringing American war material to England. It made a single sortie into the North Atlantic, sinking the British battleship HMS Hood, but receiving minor damage from the HMS Prince of Wales. The commander of the Bismarck knew that most of the Royal Navy was hunting for them, so he chose to make a high-speed run to the French port of Brest. They didn't make it. The aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal launched a wave of Swordfish aircraft against the Bismarck. In what must have been the luckiest shot of World War 2, an air-dropped torpedo struck the stern of the Bismarck and apparently jammed its rudder, and the ship began to steer in circles. This delay allowed the British fleet to catch up with and sink the Bismarck.
