no
HE can smell her blood.
In the novel, Edward doesn't offer to take Bella home from school, he forces her, she does not want to but then she gives up and gets in his car anyway. He takes her home due to her feinting in her Biology class because of the smell of blood, as they were blood typing that lesson (Edward was not in the class of course but he saw Mike taking Bella to the nurses office and went to help out- carried her there. This is not included in the film if you are confused). After Bella feels better she realises that she has gym class and doesn't want to go, Edward sweet talks the receptionist into allowing Bella to go home and so he drives her home as he believes she is in no fit state to drive.
