Vermont is the only Eastern US state that does not border a major body of water. All other states either border the Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, Great Lakes, Mississippi River, or Ohio River.

The Atlantic Ocean is the major body of water that is located to the south east of the United States. The Gulf of Mexico is also located south of the United States.
Many states have long water borders-- Wisconsin, Florida, California. However, Alaska has the longest water border of any of the 50 states.
