Your question could raise a lot of controversy, but here is one answer. What people gain by having a absolute ruler depends solely upon the character of the ruler. Some could be benign, others tyrants. Generally there is peace and even some prosperity under a sole ruler. In today's world, we tend to think that the ideal form of government is some type of democracy. However it has been proven several times over that certain countries simply are not ready for the democratic process and in order to stop civil unrest, they need a "strongman".

They can gain security to be free. They would have no limitations. There wouldn't be major changes in leadership.

Absolute rule could produce stability. However, the amount of freedom depended on the ability of social groups to counterbalance the power of the absolute rulers. Such rulers saw the sate as their possessions (Louis XIV famously said l' etat c'est moi - I am the state), ruled arbitrarily and used their kingdoms as bases for the power and wealth and to flaunt this as Louis XIV's limitless extravagance clearly showed- so did Henry VIII. Absolute rulers also often dragged their kingdoms into war with other kingdoms to increase their own possessions. They got rid of dissenters by inventing charges of treason and by staging trials that were farcical as their task was to carry out the will of the king. What Henry VIII did to his wives is not exactly an example of security and freedom.

What happened with absolutism was the rise of the central state. Prior to this kings had to struggle against the challenge to their authority by rebel aristocrats and sometimes were not in control of the whole of their kingdoms. With absolutism kings managed to brake the power of the aristocrats, and assert their power absolutely. Their state became the central state able to control the kingdom.

It had very little to do with whether the people could gain from it. The people did not count, what matter was power.

How about this? Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.

The leader could make quick decisions and not have to be potentially held-down by the legislative process, for example.
