A referendum to allow divorce in Ireland.
No, Quebec isn't independent yet, but it has tried multiple times by referendum. once, they even lost with no to 50,56%
Of course. Otherwise the result would have been 100% for the separation.
A person who voted yes in the 1980 referendum was in agreement that Quebec should split from Canada and become its own country. Nearly 40% of the Canadian population voted yes during the referendum of 1980.
Quebec tried multiple times having independence, which means Québec would be a country, but to do so, we need to have a referendum. A referendum is asking the population to vote on a question. They had referendums multiple times, but because Canada's entire population was asked, they are way more English people, outisde the province of quebec, so, they lost.
Quebec has a very different history from that of the rest of Canada, and this has led to its unique nature, culture, and government...and its rather odd place as a French-influenced land united with others of primarily English influence. The question of Quebec independence has been put twice to referendum--in 1980 and 1995. Both resulted in a "no," though the second time was very close.
