U.S. dimes, quarters, and half dollars minted before 1965 are generally 90% silver. Morgan dollars and Peace dollars are also 90% silver, and half-dollars minted between 1965-1970 are 40% silver. For more comprehensive information, try the coin calculators at coinflation.com.

No current circulating coins contain any silver.

Coins made in 1964 and before that contain 90% silver are: dimes, quarters, halves, dollars.

Coins made before 1878 that contain silver include all of the above plus the now-odd denominations of 3 cents half-dimes, and double dimes.

Half-dollars made from 1965 to 1969 are 40% silver.

Some special collectors' coins and some proof sets made after 1971 contain coins with either 40% or 90% silver.

Actually, all quarters, half dollars and dimes minted before 1965 are made out of 90% silver and the 1965-69 Kennedy halves were minted in 40% silver.

All dimes, quarters, half dollars and dollar coins minted in 1964 and before all contain silver. For the most part, the silver comprises 90% of the weight of the coin. In addition, during the years of World War 2, US nickels also contained silver. These can be identified by the large letter "D" or "P" or "S" located on the reverse [tails] side of the coin above the dome of Monticello. Additionally, from 1851 to 1873 a 3 cent coin was minted that also contained silver. Various commemorative coins minted before and after 1964 also contain silver but these were not generally intended for daily circulation.

All U.S. dollars, halves, quarters, 20-cents pieces, dimes, half-dimes, and 3-cent pieces (with the star on them) that have a date of 1964 or older are made from 90% silver.

Half dollars from 1965 to 1970 are 40% silver.

Nickels from 1942 to 1945, with a big letter (P, D, or S) over the building on the back are also partial silver.

There are other silver coins like some of the Bicentennial quarters, halves and dollars, some Eisenhower dollars, and some 1992 to present silver proof dimes, quarters, and halves that contain silver. Check the edge for the lack of a copper stripe to determine if these are silver.

1964 is the last year any 90% silver coins were issued for general circulation. 40% silver Kennedy half dollars were released for circulation from 1965 to 1969. No current U.S. coins have any silver or gold in them.

There would be very few, if any, circulating silver coins in the world.

In England the 5p, 10p, 20p and the 50p coin are a copper-nickel alloy, but are silvery in colour.

What was the date that pure silver coins were minted in UK?

"Pure" silver coins were never minted in Britain. The closest to pure silver used in coins is sterling silver which is 92.5% silver usually alloyed with copper. Sterling silver coins were last issued for general circulation in 1919 and 1920, beyond 1919/1920 the coins were debased to 50% silver. The Royal Mint still produces Proof and bullion coins (not for general circulation) which are made from sterling silver, but this is reflected in the price you pay for them.
