What were Viking ships and how they were used in battle?
What are two differences between a viking long ship and a viking trade ship?
Viking long ships could be used for stealth raids because of their thinness and fastness and were Generally used to cut/power on through the ocean. The long ships also had a flexible hull, to bend with the action of the waves and another characteristic of the hull helped it 'cut' through the water (as i've said before). Trade ships were wider than the long ships and had longer sides. They also contained a few oars and obviously, because of the name, they were used to trade so they usually had livestock and other things on board.

Are Pirate ships viking ships?
No. Although they could both be used for raiding and plunder, they were set in different times and were entirely different kinds of ships. Viking ships (longships) were very seaworthy craft usually with a large sail and oars, but typically open to the elements. They were used to transport the Vikings to coastal towns where they would loot and pillage. They were not often used in sea battles as were contemporary Roman ships. Viking raids began in ancient times, notably from around 800 to 1300 AD. New investigations suggest that the ships were also used for far-ranging trade. Pirate ships, used from around the 14th century to the 19th century, were similar to the large sailing warships of the day. They had multiple masts and sails, enclosed holds and officer cabins. They used cannons to attack other ships, and would board them to seize their cargoes at sea. But they could also be used in raiding towns.

What ships are known to be used by the the Vikings?
The Vikings used various ships for various roles. Knörr These ships were used for crossing vast oceans and were designed to be able to do so. They were often used for transporting heavy cargo and livestock between Europe and Greenland by crossing the North Atlantic. Karve These variations were small-ish cargo ships used for transporting light cargo and livestock within the Viking Empires. They were also designed for navigating shallow waters, so they could be used to sail down rivers. Faering This was a medium-sized row boat that can be powered by two pairs of oars or a small sail. These were generally used for personal transportation or small fishing trips. Longship This is probably the most known Viking ship. Longships were the backbone of the Viking navy, used in many military campaigns by the Vikings. Longships could also be privately owned by Viking lords to show off their wealth, these lords were often cremated in their ships when they died.

Is there any viking ship names?
many viking ships had names given to them by their respective Jarls or ship-masters as per viking culture they would typically have names that would be fearsome or notable such as silver-wolf wave tamer storm rider wyrm breath sometimes even the wood used in the building could be a defining feature due to the colouring of the wood IE silver-wolf would be ideal for a ship that used a pale wood or wyrm breath for a ship that used a reddish wood but their where no specific name categories for viking ships unless you look at famous viking which then it may give you their ship names
