∙ 9y agoMercutio is too busy cracking jokes to give much advice; it is Benvolio who is the advisor among Romeo's pals. In Act I Scene 5 he says some things which sound like advice: "We must have you dance", "Borrow Cupid's wings", "If love be rough with you, be rough with love", but they all add up to "I want to have a good time at this party, so cheer up and stop moping 'cause you're dragging me down." Notice how when Romeo says, "I dream'd a dream tonight", Mercutio immediately cuts him off and starts talking about himself. The situation is the same in Act II Scene 4 , where Mercutio and Romeo are making bad puns and dirty jokes and Mercutio says, "Why, is not this better now than groaning for love?" Better for Mercutio, certainly, but not necessarily for Romeo.
