You should set a minimum age. Most parents set a minimum of ten (10) years of age. Kentucky doesn't have any laws about children staying anywhere alone. To be honest, I'd aim for roughly fourteen (14).

There are very few states in the U.S. with legal minimum ages, but many state agencies have published guidelines. Georgia, Illiniois, Maryland and Oregon are a few of the states with very specific ages. Typically 8 year olds and over can be left at home for up to several hours (usually after school before a parent gets home from work).

12 years old appears to be the most common recommendation. http://www.latchkey-kids.com/latchkey-kids-age-limits.htm provides a state by state comparison.

Well, the age shouldn't be the only consideration, its also the maturity level and responsibility level of the teen. I say teen because anything under 13 usually isn't advisible. The teen should be set up with emergency phone numbers and plans in case of an emergency, told all the do and donts of being alone, like no answering the door or the phone, unless its you, no going outside and perhaps no use of appliances. This shouldn't be done on a continuing bases either, giving a teen to much run of the house or too much responsibility too fast makes them grow up way too fast. They do need a parent around on a consistent basis to keep them in check and let them know that someone cares.

Now I'm not sure if this is correct, as I'm not a resident of Ky but just work here from time to time, but on this job contract, my hospital co-workers say that if a child is 14 and has CPR then they can actually stay home alone any time (even at night) and even babysit... YIKES.

What is the legal age to leave home in Kentucky?

Don't leave young kids alone in Kentucky. A child should not be left home alone in Kentucky until they are 11 years of age. There is no law per se, but I work in the child welfare arena and if your child is younger than this and being left alone child protective services will take a report and investigate a child left alone younger than 11. There still may be a report if a child is older than 11 and they are left for long periods of time. It's also not a good idea to let children younger than 13 babysit for younger children. I work for Child Protective Services in Louisville KY, and we investigate cases of children under the age of eight when they are left alone. Children above that age can be left alone for a couple of hours and we look at the maturity level of the children up to 12 years of age. There is no law in KY that addresses this issue.

Can a 15 or 16 year old child who has a child of their own be considered to be an adult in Ky?

No, you are not emancipated automatically when you have a child. It does not mean one has the ability to take care of yourself. You do have certain rights as to obtaining assistance for you and your child, but you are still the responsibility of your parents until you turn 18.

What is the age for a child to decide who they want to live with in Ky?

As long as they are minors they are not allowed to decide. Around the age of 12 the judge would listen to their opinion but they can not decide.

What is the legal age for a teen to move out of their parents' house without their parents' permission KY?

The legal age of majority in Kentucky is 18. In general, a minor cannot leave the family home and reside on their own until they reach that age or receive a decree of emancipation. Parents are legally and financially responsible for their children until said children reach adulthood, therefore they have the legal right to keep their child/children in their custody unless a court rules otherwise.

Can a parent stop paying child support when the child of age 15 moves in with her boyfriend in KY?

No, you have to pay until she is emancipated. She can't support herself now. Also, why are you letting her move in with her boyfriend at 15? She can't do that without parental permission. If they have sex it would be illegal on both parts since she has not yet reached the age for consent, 16, in KY and maybe not he has either. If he has over 18 it will be statutory rape.
