I have read that, sadly, yes it does. It's something that can be partially prevented with regular aerobic exercise, weight training and a good healthy diet.
It gets slower and then old people get fatter.

Yes as you age your metabolism begins to slow down and you gain weight more easily. Your metabolism is affected by your age, body size, gender, and composition. As you age your body loses muscle and gains fat which slows down your body's ability to burn calories.
Just like if you sit around and play with a rubber band for 70+ years, it will eventually wear out and start to break down. The same happens in your body when you age. Everything is working 24/7 every year of your life so it will start to slow down. Also, the elderly are usually less active than when they were younger, I don't know EXACTLY how, but you always hear that "the more active you are, the faster your metabolism is". Hope that helps :-)
yes because bones start to get old and slow down
It may be that their metabolism has slowed, either with age or has always been slow, or, ironically enough, by not eating enough calories, which can also slow down your metabolism. Everyone's metabolism is so individual so the only real way to answer questions like this is to have your RMR (Resting Metabolic Rate) tested.
Ity will slow down after the age of fifty years.
Your metabolism slows down
With time the body wears out, and everything the body does becomes less efficient and therefore slower.
