Symbolically people refer to the lion as the most courageous and bravest animals, even thoughit usually is quite lazy and sits around and lets the female do the hunting, sometimes coming to the aid taking down the beast they are hunting, although if he or his family are put in danger he will jump and fight bravely. Although try and mess with any animal with their mother in sight, and courage is out of the question. a mother will do anything to help her child fearlessly.

I think the lion is a very brave animal.

One great example is emperor penguins. Father emperor penguins incubate a single egg- they brave the elements standing up and holding their egg for months on end. They cannot even eat and lose half their body weight while they stand in the cold darkness for months protecting their egg from harm and hiding it form the cold, waiting for it to hatch.

Many animals are amazingly brave when it comes to protecting their young and giving them a chance to survive.

Well, the old saying state's: Courageous like a lion, but old sayings say lots of nonsensical things. In truth, there are lots of courageous animals. Id have to say that the lion and the lemming are some of the most courageous animals. Lemmings will jump off cliffs just to follow its pack!!! :O Lions are too, though. They aren't scared of anything!!!
