DNA, or Deoxyribose Nucleic acids are made up of chains of nucleotides. Each nucleotide is composed of a deoxyribose pentosugar, a phosphate group, and a nitrogen base. There are 4 types of N bases: Guanine, Cytosine, Adenine, and Thymine. G and C match up, and A and T match up.

DNA strands are located on chromosomes. DNA stands for Deoxyribonucleic Acid. DNA strands are in the shape of a double helix.

Name of the DNA strand which is copied to make mRNA?

This is typically called the template DNA, which is the anti-sense strand of DNA. The strand that is not transcribed is called the sense strand.

What strand of DNA is used to make a complementary copy or to make a complementary mRNA molecule-?

The strand is called the parental strand. the gene being copied would depend on which protein is needed.

What do the template strands of DNA always begin with?

DNA is made of of two complimentary strands, the coding strand and the template strand. When DNA is transcribed (made into messenger RNA which can be converted by ribosomes into proteins) the DNA splits open and free nucleotide bases bind to the template strand. DNA is made of T/C/G/A and RNA is made of U/C/G/A nucleotide bases. G and C bind (they are said to be 'complimentary') A and T bind and in RNA U and A bind (so U replaces T.) The newly formed RNA strand (made on the template stand of DNA) is 'complimentary' to the template but the same as the coding strand of DNA. Hence the template is used to produce RNA which is a copy of the coding strand. Either strand of DNA can act as the template/coding strand. Hope that is a little bit helpful!

What does semi-conservative mean regard to DNA replication?

replicated DNA is made of one old strand and one new strand.

What does RNA polymerase use one strand of DNA as?

No. All strands can be replicated, just depends on where the enzyme decides to land and unzip it. Anyways, all DNA molecules would be adequate templates since they are all identical copies of each other.

What is the strand?

The template strand, if reffering to DNA, is the strand of the DNA that is copied to make more DNA.

During DNA replications a complementary strand of DNA is made for each original DNA strand thus if a portion of the original strand is CCTAGCT then the new strand will be?

CCAATTG

What does the reaction in the test tube generate when complementary DNA is made for reading DNA?

When a complementary strand and a coding strand are combined in a test tube the result is a recombinant DNA strand.

How is dna made into mRNA?

DNA is not made into mRNA, it is transcribed by mRNA. The DNA molecule is split into two strands by the enzyme helicase. One strand is the sense strand and the other is the anti-sense strand. Then mRNA nucleotides pair with their complimentary DNA bases on the antisense strand. The enzyme RNA polymerase causes the mRNA nucleotides to bond with one another, forming a strand of mRNA.

If a change is made in the DNA strand it is called a?

A mutation

Which strand of DNA transcribes into mRNA?

The strand running in the 3'-5' end will be the one that RNA copies, as this is the direction of transcription

When DNA replicates what are the new DNA made of?

its made of DNA. Replication just doubles the DNA, just like when bacteria or humans replicate.. the new human is .. well made of human.... It is opposite and anti-parallel.... 5-AATGTC-3 Original strand 3-TTACAG-5 new strand Each new molecule will have 1 original strand, and 1 daughter/newly synthesized strand. DNA replication results in DNA DNA transcription results in a strand of RNA
