Here is a good link on VST.. madtracker.org I don't understand how they work, but they are virtual instruments and/or effects that work with a host (Cakewalk, Fruity Loops, etc.). VST is the plugin format developed by Steinberg (Cubase, etc.), DX is the format developed by Twelve Tone Systems (Cakewalk, Sonar). Most music production software can use an adapter or "wrapper" to enable the use of both formats within a project. The Fruity website (fruityloops.com)has more info. Hope this helps. WW
Steinberg's Virtual Studio Technology (VST) is an interface for integrating software audio synthesizer and effect plugins with audio editors and hard-disk recording systems. VST and similar technologies use Digital Signal Processing to simulate traditional recording studio hardware with software. Thousands of plugins exist, both commercial and freeware, and VST is supported by a large number of audio applications. The technology can be licensed from its creator, Stein berg. #For More information visit www.iyogi.net.
VST plugins are add-on programs to your virtual studio software that can be an instrument or sound effect.

Steinberg's Quadrafuzz plugin is discontinued and no longer available. If you can find an old copy of it, installing it in to the system would allow you to use it as a VST plugin inside FL Studio automatically.
You can make any genre of software with just about any form of studio or synthesizer software. If you want to get started, you can try downloading a free VST plugin and run it through a VST host (there are free ones out there).
First, you have to either install or move the plugin to the default plugins folder, wherever you may have suggested it to be (VST Plugins). To have FL Studio use the plugin, you must open the plugins panel and refresh the list, then you can add it to the mixer on the channel assigned to the instrument.
Kore Player 2 needs to be a VST, VSTi or DX compatible plugin to work in FL Studio. Alternatively, you can select KP2 as an external application to run from FL Studio, though FL won't be able to use it directly.

Just google free vst plugin, there are many, though I have downloaded a few as part of making dubstep, techno music for PumpYouUp.com and none were really worth the effort and generally worse quality than free synths or effects that come with most music software/soundcards. Sylenth and/or Massive is likely what you want, they are a bit of money but well worth it.
You can increase the efficiency of VST by using the following methods. 1 - Use fewer Unison Voices - Each unison voice creates a replica of the original signal, which means double the work. Try to use a low unison voice value. 6-9 is good. 2 - Use modulation wisely - Modulation is automated automation; the more the number of modulated parameters, the more will be CPU used. 3 - Choose the plugin wisely - You can make a basic pluck simply by using a saw wav and a Low pass filter with an ADSR envelope, for this purpose using a High Spec VST I not necessary. 4 - Avoid Plugins with heavy RAM usage; like Kontakt libraries with high sample rate and storage. 5 - Get presets for plugin with low specs - like ANNMS Music, you can find presets for plugin like GMS, Toxic Biohazard, Harmor etc. These lugins are very efficient and the presets are free.

VST Planet and PluginBoutique are both websites where someone can find more information about VST plugins. Some VST plugins are free, but many others are licensed software, and a fee must be paid for their use.
