Manipulative people tend to say and do things to lower your self-esteem. They may try to keep you away from family and friends as much as possible and limit your contact with the outside world, which limits your access to other people's opinions. They try to make you believe you are stupid or wrong by belittling you and not valueing your thoughts or actions. They try to get you to do things you don't want to do by preying on your guilt or your conscience--"if you really loved me, you would do this", or "everyone else does it, it's no big deal." If someone is trying to manipulate you, get yourself out of that situation fast, because manipulation and emotional/psychological abuse go hand in hand, and nobody deserves that. Anyone trying to manipulate you is not a friend. You're better than that. Your thoughts and opinions do count, and if you have any hesitation about doing something, you should listen to your gut.
