Any television receiver, whether a converter box or an integrated receiver in a television will only be able to receive channels that are being broadcast on the platform that the receiver is designed to use.
Worldwide, there are thousands of broadcasters with many thousands of channels. The answer to the question is to look up the output from local broadcasters to see what is available.

A converter is a device that collects all the available channels from the cable company and puts it into an RF signal on a particular channel. Some converters can even change the signal to a "Video" format which can then be attached to a VCR for superior picture. A converter cannot be used to receive premium channels which are scrambled as by itself it is just a channel changer and not a descrambler. You can get all the basic channels with a converter if your TV is not the cable ready type. But if you add a descrambler to your converter, you can then access all the scrambled channels. You can get a converter from your cable company and attach a descrambler to it or you can purchase both the devices on your own and use them to access channels. However, it is illegal to not inform the cable company that you are receiving their signals.

The TVs without a converter box or digital signal will only be able to pick up analog channels, so once they change all of the channels to digital, the TV cannot pick up any channels, most likely resulting in snow.

If you go to the guide in the upper left hand corner it should say All Channels. If the guide does not say this, you simply need to press the guide button again & you will notice the words displayed will change each time you press the guide button. Once you are on "All Channels" again check your channels & the problem should be resolved.
