Beta radiation is used for measuring how thick materials are, beta is used in industry in detectors the thickness of materials such as paper, plastic and aluminium. They can tell how thick the material is because the thicker the material the more radiation absorbed and the less radiation the detector will pick up.

The main use of an Alpha particle is in smoke detectors. They ionize the air in a 5cm gap and if the "excited2 electrons do not reach the detector because of something like smoke then it releases an alarm.

Why is beta radiation used to measure beta radiation?

Because its attenuation is proportional to thickness being penetrated

Beta radiation used rather than alpha or gamma radiation in this paper thickness equipment?

beta radiation used in this paper thickness equipment because alpha and gamma are very strong radiation which can not be used for paper thickness equipment such as paper are used by every one and it could cause radiation if other nuclear radiation like alpha and gamma are used.

How is beta radiation used in paper making?

burns it a lot

Radiation consisting of a single electron?

beta radiation!

Which form of radiation is the same as an electron?

Beta minus radiation is a stream of electrons.

What forms of radiation are used medically?

There are three kinds of radiation useful to medical personnel: alpha, beta, and gamma radiation.

Is Alpha Beta or gamma made from electrons?

Beta radiation is made from electrons (or positrons for inverse beta radiation). Alpha radiation is a helium nucleus, and gamma radiation is a high energy electromagnetic ray.

Does beta radiation have a helium nuleus?

A stream of helium nuclei is alpha radiation. Beta radiation is a stream of electrons.

Beta

Does beta have a helium nucleus?

Beta radiation does not have a helium nucleus.Alpha radiation, however, does have a helium nucleus.

What are the uses for promethium?

Applications of promethium: - beta radiation source in instruments used to measure thickness of coatings by retrodiffusion of beta radiations - luminous paints - atomic batteries
