The main part of the cello is made from wood. The top is made from spruce and the back, sides and neck are maple. The purfling, which are the the decorative lines around the edge, usually made of tiny strips of wood, or just painted on. The stings are attached to the neck, via the tuning pegs. The end pin and fine tuners are made of metal. The bass bar and sound post (inside) are made of wood. The bow is wood (or for beginners, fiberglass) with horse hair attached.
