Hertz or Hz is a frequency measurement which gives the number of times a rhythmic cycle happens every second.
In electricity, AC voltage is supplied to United States homes at 60Hz. The generators from a power plant push electrons out over the electrical wires and then pull them back in, back and forth 60 times every second. This alternating motion of electrical current is called -- you guessed it -- Alternating Current, or "AC".
In computers, Hz is measured by the number of times 1's and 0's can be switched in the processor in 1 second. 1 Khz (kilohertz) is equal to 1000 Hz. 1 MHz (megahertz) is 1 million Hz and 1 GHz (gigahertz) is 1 billion 1's and 0's switched every second.
Hz = cps = cycles per second
Measurement of frequency, named for Heinrich Hertz.

HZ stands for hertz. It is the measurement of frequency.
