Sometimes the term non-ferrous is used to describe any sort of metal which is not steel or iron. Finally, sometimes these terms are used to identify whether or not a metal can be affected by magnets. Ferrous metals will usually respond or "stick to" a magnet whereas non-ferrous metals are not easily magnetised.
