All continuous tenses show an ongoing action.

The past continuous is formed with was/were + present participle (I'll use "walking for my examples):

  • I was walking
  • We were walking
  • You were walking
  • He/she was walking
  • They were walking

The present continuous is formed with am/is/are + present participle:

  • I am walking
  • We are walking
  • You are walking
  • He/she is walking
  • They are walking

The future continuous is formed with will + be + present participle:

  • I will be walking
  • We will be walking
  • You will be walking
  • He/she will be walking
  • They will be walking

Present participles are the -ing form of a verb.
