What do the picarats do in Professor Layton and the Curious Village?

After you finish the game, depending the picarats you have, you will be able to use the "extras" such as the profiles, music , etc.

The more picarats you have the more features will be unlocked. However, if you don't have enough picarats when you beat the game you won't be able to enjoy certain features unless you solve more puzzle and thus, gain more picarats.

The picarats basically represent you score in the game. They also unlock based on your number of picarats character profiles, art, movies, music, & voice in the top secret section. Don't worry about incorrect answers as you still have enough picarats to unlock everything even if you get every puzzle wrong.

Every time you answer a puzzle correctly, you are awarded Picarats. Once you've completed the game's storyline, you can use these to access features in 'Top Secret', which is in the bonus section. Based on the amount you have, you can unlock art, music, character profiles, voice and movies. Even if you get the minimum amount of Picarats for each puzzle you solve, it is still possible to unlock all the bonus features. If your score is perfect, however, you don't get anything extra for it.
