PTSD is a psychological disorder that involves a maladaptive reaction to a traumatic event. People with this disorder usually have a continuous problem of adjustment, even after several years after the traumatic event has passed. Symptoms are avoiding anything that reminds them of the event, traumatic flashbacks, depression or severe anxiety, difficulties relaxing , and difficulties feeling strong emotions. Common suffers of PTSD are people that have AIDS, cancer, or were once in combat.

Extreme emotional reactivity relative to the original trauma co-sequential with possible physical symptoms (shaking, trembling, running, hitting); flashback imagery which may occur with or without conscious recognition of the images; memory loss, particularly short-term memory; fits of blind rage, often with features of dissociation followed by partial or total loss of memory of the rage event. Other dissociative phenomenon have also been observed, which may appear as social withdrawal, partial or total isolation, aggressive/defensive affect, aloofness, emotional nonchalance, and other behaviors which represent enactments of an out-of-touch personality. The most telling symptom, however, are the fits of rage.
