People hate what they fear. In most cases this goes back afar and goes into religion. snakes were/are Serpents. In most cases serpents were assosiated with the devil.(Like the snake in Adam and Eve) and were feared for many years. Even today!!! Like most fears, you can inherate them off other people when you are very young.
Probably because they're not 'cute & cuddly' like furry creatures. Add to that - the story of Adam and Eve being tempted by the serpent, in The Bible - and it's easy to see why snakes have a 'bad press'. In reality - of the 2,400 know snake species - only about 400 species are actually venomous. Additionally - of those 400 species - only a small proportion produce venom potent enough to kill people.

∙ 10y agoSnakes typically are afraid of what preys on them, or otherwise endangers them. This includes predators like eagles, hawks, weasels and other snakes. They are also afraid of things that might injure them, like humans, horses, or fire.
Snakes don't really manifest emotions. What you perceive to be fear is instinctive defensive response.

How do you find diurnal snakes in Massachusetts?
There are 14 types of snakes in Massachusetts. Some of which are diurnal, These are tips on finding these creatures. 1. When to find snakes = When looking for snakes in MA make sure its a sunny day in the Spring, Summer, and early and mid fall. The temperature should be between 65-85 degrees. Tip ( snakes don't like it when goes lower than 65 or 85 degrees). But that doesn't go for most snakes, Some snakes like Brown Snakes, Red-belly snakes, and Ring neck snakes like the temperature cooler like 55. In addition the best time to find these snakes is in the Spring. In the summer these snakes are found under logs and rocks. But some snakes like Black racers like extreme heat 85 or 90+ 2 Where to find snakes = It depends on what snakes your looking for. I most commonly see snakes in Woodland parks. But for example smooth Green snakes like grassland habitats, and Hog nose snakes like sandy areas. Garter snakes the most common snakes in Massachusetts can be found in virtually every habitat in Massachusetts.
