What are some accomplishments of Joseph Stalin?

He industrialized the Soviet Union as well as held a great part in helping defeat Germany in WWII.

He beat the Germans in WWII, and made a very big impact in WWII, as well, Hitler and him made a pact that Hitler wouldn't invade Stalin's country but he did anyway. And did collectivization which boosted Russia's economy.

Joseph Stalin was a wily and astute politician and a strong leader for the Soviet Union.

For example he made taxes lower and lowered prices for many common goods. Inflation in USSR was 2.3% whilst he was leader, whilst in the USA it was 3.5%.

When, in May of 1922, he became a general secretary of Soviet Union, the economy of the USSR was at a low point in its history. The civil war has just ended in March of that year, and the country was still suffering. When Stalin died in 1953 the USSR was regarded as one of the top powers in the world, having a strong economy and nuclear capabilities, something attained by only the most powerful nations of the time.

Although he was brought into the war against Nazi Germany unwillingly, the USSR led by Stalin did more than any other country to defeat the Nazi power. Many find this ironic, as he willingly and eagerly signed a nonaggression pact with the Nazis and greedily took his cut out of Poland once the Nazis attacked that country.

Of course Stalin's positive accomplishments will not outweigh his negative ones to many people. These negative accomplishments include work camps, show trials, the gulag prison camps,and the forced collectivization of farms, which starved millions of people to death.
