It depends on how fast and complex you can read? It is different for every person!!! I agree that it depends on how you read, but I think the Questioner means what reading level an average 6th grader should be on. Honestly, in my opninion, I think that it is(according to grades) a bit obviously-6 and up.

In the A-Z reading program, a 3rd grade student should be reading at a level P and higher, probably 4 or more levels to S or T Go to the A-Z reading site and there is a chart provided for each level.

While some third graders will be at fourth, fifth, or even sixth reading level (I taught gifted and talented students that were at those reading levels), the average third student should be at a fourth-grade level. Some will be at second, third, or four grade level. I've taught students with developmental disabilities that read at adult level and some who could not recognize the alphabets and could not read at a lower level and cannot read at all.
