The Traditional View

At first, western writers blamed Russia. They said Stalin was trying to build up a Soviet empire.

The Revisionist View

Later, however, some western historians blamed America. They said Truman had not understood how much Russia had suffered in the Second World War.

The Post-Revisionists

Later still, historians think BOTH sides were to blame - that there were hatreds on both sides.

Most recently, historians agree that the Cold War was primarily a clash of beliefs - Communism versus Capitalism.

The Atomic Bombs created the cold war.
Romania took the lead in departing from the soviet policy, and Detente rather than confrontation led to the breakup of the Soviet Union. Gorbachev started to undermine the soviet system when he gained the west's trust.

It is a misnomer to believe that the Cold War ever ended. The battle field simply changed.

Keep in mind that the primary (non) combatants of the Cold War were the US and the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union ceased to exist, collapsing largely due to economic reasons. There were (and still are) other players in the Cold War scenario. Many people forget China. Consider also that many nations have played a part in Cold War politics.

In short, the Cold War never ended, only the tactics and strategies transformed.
