Dominican Tv host Preston Lopez was first to put Washington Heights the neighborhood in Manhattan in New York City on the map or tv and gave a visual insider access to the culture, people, music & lifestyle where others before never did. It was basically unknown to the masses because there wasnt any internet, YouTube or social media. The groundbreaking public access television program called The Preston Lopez Show beginning in the 1990s was and still is a gamechanger. Although they were other spanish speaking older host who periodically did a segment in the neighborhood. Preston Lopez gave full time access to the inner workings of the real community with a younger fresher, uncensored bilingual point of view. The show still airs weekdays. His parents were among the first Dominicans to settle in that area in the late 1960s. A side note Baseball great Alex Rodriguez lived downstairs from them.
