There are sooo many things to babysitting. Sometimes it's not that easy, depending on the child whom you are watching.
You can award stickers for them being helpful (or trying to be).
You can bring a treat wrapped in a plastic bag or wrapping paper and tell them they gat it at the end of the day if their behavior is good.
Always stay true to your warnings and words or the child will not take you seriously.
Read "The Babysitter's Handbook, The Care and Keeping of Kids" from American Girl.
Before the parents leave...
get their cell phone number
the poison control center in your area
the time they expect to be home
the name and phone number of a neighbor
the name and phone number of the child's doctor or hospital
the child's food and medicine Allergies
what to do with dirty diapers and clothes
what to feed
snacks you can and can't eat
type of discipline necessary
sometimes what you feed children isn't as important as how you feed them!
make bagel faces...spread cream cheese over half a bagel and use fruit and vegetables for a nose, eyes, and mouth.
Cut pb&j Sandwiches into fun shapes with cookie cutters
pee wee pizzas...spread tomato sauce on an English muffin with cheese cubes sprinkled over it. microwave it until the cheese melts and then let the child make a face with cut veggies
cinnamon sugar toast...butter a slice of toast and sprinkle a little bit of cinnamn and sugar on it
have an indoor picnic
play restaurant...you be the waitress (and cook!) and have he children tell you what they want to eat. but first tell them "today's special" (whatever you're making for them). tell them they have to "pay" you with art work.
with toddlers play "change machine"...drape a sheet over a table and every tme the child goes through it she becomes something new...puppy, kitten, or ballerina! let her choose. make sure you play with her.
bring puppets.
the house is a mess and you have several rooms to pick up. you also have several children in the house. make each child "queen" or "king" of a different room and have them tell the others and you what to pick up. each rooom you clean have a different child be the royalty.
HOPE THIS HELPED!

Well when I babysit I bring a bag full of things. For example the kids I babysit most just love treaure hunts so i make a treasure hunt for them on the computer and then print. Sometimes I make a certificate for them in the end but today I printed out treasure hunt related color in drawings for them to color in. I also brought colored pencils.
Its always nice for them if you bring along a new book like a childhood favorite.
Another fun thing is you bring some paper and they make a story which you write down for them. Then they can show their mom after. Make sure to only write their names on the by ___ ...not yours. They can hang it on their door.
For bed time try to make contest like who can get in their pjs fastest and things.
Taking a walk is also fun.
Baking cookies is fun too. Just be sure to check with the parents before you bring anything to bake.
Hope this helped!
Well, if they're only about 1,2 or 3 you could to Patty-cake or Peek-a-boo. Any older than that would love to play Hide and seek, Chasey and/or bunch of boardgames. If they have gaming devices like Playstations you could play some multiplayer games with them.
You can have a carnival. Give the children tokens to start out with (little pictures of coins printed and cut out) and set up different games.
Here are some of the games:
ping pong cups --- on a ping pong table set up plastic cups and have the kids try to bounce a ball into the cup and have different amounts of prize points (type out different numbers and cut them out separately) in each cup. Be sure to set a certain amount of tries.
wheres the ball? --- very common game, one ball, three cups. Move around the cups and if they guess which one has the ball, give them however many prize points you want.
ring toss --- Use plastic safety cones and rings and let them toss the rings and the cones they get, they get however many prize points are under it.
bulls-eye --- use a Nerf gun, and shoot at a bulls-eye drawn on a whiteboard. The different layers give a different amount of points.
Bowling --- use a play bowling set
spin the wheel --- use a little flick wheel from a board game. If you get an odd number, you get that many points. if you get it even number, you don't get anything.
You could bring items bought at a dollar store to use as prizes.
I babysit and 5 and 9 year old....and I bring a lot of crafts and they love me...some craft stores have sales on this kid paint thing and it comes in a pack of like 4 or more...
