Major geologic events include the planetary collision that formed the moon, the cooling of Earth's surface, the formation of the oceans, the formation of life, the introduction of oxygen into the atmosphere, the formation of Pangaea, the breakup of Pangaea, and the five mass extinctions: the Ordovician-Silurian extinction, the Late Devonian extinction, the Permian-Triassic extinction (the worst of all), the Triassic-Jurassic extinction, and the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction (which wiped out the dinosaurs).

Geological processes are natural processes that occur on the surface and subsurface of the Earth which help to shape the Earth, concentrate resources and so on. These processes occurred millions of years ago, are occurring presently and will continue to occur. They can be broadly grouped into igneous, sedimentary, metamorphic and tectonic processes. They include processes such as magma upwelling, weathering, erosion, transportation, deposition, plate divergence and convergence, etc.

See the link below for several examples of major events. A major event happened in Haiti not long ago--an earthquake, if you only need one example.
