It depends on where you start. My favorite drive in the state is from St. George to Moab. Be sure to take every detour possible.

Eat at Cafe Rio in St. George and The Moab Brewery in Moab.

There are many, many famous places in Utah but here are some that stand out for me.

  • Temple in Salt Lake City
  • Zion National Park
  • Bryce Canyon
  • Escalante
  • Snow Canyon
  • The Salt Lake
  • Cedar Break Mountains

All kinds of things:

The Bonneville Salt Flats, where people try to set or break land speed records;

The Wasatch Mountain range - home of "The Greatest Snow on Earth" (because of its dry, light, and fluffy nature, due to the Great Salt Lake's effect on the weather, among other things) and several topnotch ski resorts, including Park City, Sundance, The Canyons, and Deer Valley, near the world-renowned Sundance Film Festival. Deer Valley is also considered by some sources to be the best ski resort in the world.

Of course, there's the Great Salt Lake, Arches National Park, and Moab, the red rock desert where most of the John Wayne western movies were filmed. Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon, Lake Powell, Goblin Valley, etc.. Utah has more state and national parks than any other state, and is considered by many standards to be the most geographically diverse state in the country.

And of course Utah is the headquarters of the faith known as the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints.

And we can't forget Kennecott Mine, the world's largest open pit mine at over three-quarters of a mile deep, and visible from space. The Mount Timpanogos Cave is a natural wonder, near Utah County.

In terms of statistics, Utah is known as being the happiest state, having the strongest economy, having the highest percentages of prescription drug abuse, lowest divorce rates, largest families, youngest population, and fastest growing population.

Utah is also the home of the Osmond Family, well known performers. Best known members of the family are Donnie and Marie.

Skiing and Snowboarding.

The most famous of Utah's landmarks is the Great Salt Lake in the central-northern area. West of the Great Salt Lake are the Salt Flats, characterized by the brittle, white earth that goes on for miles and miles. South of the Great Salt Lake is a mountain range called the Wasatch Front and Mount Timpanogos a little farther South. Zions and Arches National Parks are in Southern Utah. They are famous for their uniquely formed, strikingly colorful rock formations.
