A Common one is ctrl+alt+del. This can open task manager among other things. Opening task manager can be done more quickly through ctrl+shift+esc. Alt+tab switches between open windows and in vista and 7 win+tab lets you use flip 3d. Win+r activates the run command. Alt+f4 can close the window selected and when no windows are selected it can shutdown your computer.
