Most retired books will need to be purchased from other players, either through swaps (Swap Barn) or through the Bidding Barn. However, on occasion when you put a Lucky Silver Coin in the Fortune Cookie Machine in East New Barkston, you will get a bad fortune of an old (retired) book.

You can send a PMail to one of the staff members (such as -SC-) that you no longer wish to play on PowerPets and they can dismantle your account.
I suggest PowerPets. To "upgrade" your account, you need email and real money, but you don't have to upgrade. ;) I'm still pretty new to PowerPets myself, but it's a pretty cool website. :)
