Not every child with Down syndrome has these outward physical appearances, but they are clues:

• Flat facial profile
• Slightly flattened bridge of nose; small nose
• Highly flexible
• Low muscle tone
• Head is small for their age
• Ears are small, lowset
• Eyes have an upward slant
• Small skinfolds on corners of eyes (epicanthal folds)
• Light spots on irises of eyes (Brushfield's Spots)
• Small mouth, low roof of mouth
• Sometimes a cleft lip
• Small, wide hands
• Wide flat feet with short toes
