Many times when matter goes through a chemical change (i.e. burning) one of the byproducts is CO2. CO2 is one of the essential compounds for life on this planet. Plants in turn take up CO2 and expel oxygen (O2) as a waste product. Carbon dioxide is a carbon atom connected to two oxygen atoms. One fact: water vapor, (H2O), produces a 100X more of a "Green House" effect than CO2. Why is this not mentioned in the Global warming debate?

Most carbon dioxide is created by rotting or burning organic material. Respiration is also the conversion of oxygen into carbon dioxide. This accounts for 94% of all carbon dioxide generated.

Un-natural process make up the remaining 6%. These processes include the burning of any carbon based fuels (fossil or alternative) and some manufacturing processes.

Sources of carbon dioxide are from the burning of fossil fuels from both cars and factories. Also, volcanic vents add a large amount of carbon dioxide to our atmosphere.

What is a natural source of sulfur dioxide carbon dioxide and ash in the atmosphere?

Volcanos release sulfur dioxide, carbon dioxide, and ash to the atmosphere at the same time

Can the natural cycle of carbon dioxide emissions increase carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere?

No, the natural cycle of carbon dioxide (CO2) moves through the land, oceans and atmosphere, and has done for millions of years. It is able to remove all the natural carbon in the air (and part of the global warming carbon as well). It is the burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas) in industry, transport and the generation of electricity that releases carbon that has been hidden underground for millennia that is increasing the carbon concentrations in the atmosphere.

What natural methods remove CO2 from the atmosphere?

Growing vegetation, like trees, plants and crops, removes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The other natural method is the carbon cycle, which moves carbon in and out of the atmosphere, in and out of the oceans, and in and out of the land.

Why carbon can not enter the atmosphere?

Carbon can enter the atmosphere. It moves in and out of the atmosphere through the earth's regular carbon cycle. What it can not do is enter as pure carbon. Carbon is a solid in it's natural state and solids fall out of our atmosphere. Carbon must mix with a gas, such as oxygen, to create another gas, carbon dioxide, to enter the atmosphere.

Why is it important for the earth to have some carbon dioxide in its atmosphere?

The natural greenhouse effect (helped by carbon dioxide) keeps the earth warm. The enhanced (or accelerated) greenhouse effect (from too much carbon dioxide) is causing global warming.

What happens to greenhouse gases at natural levels in the atmosphere?

At natural levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere (before the Industrial Revolution), the carbon cycle moved carbon dioxide in and out of land, sea and air. Enough carbon dioxide remained in the atmosphere to keep the earth comfortably warm, warm enough for life.

What are some natural resources of particles in the atmosphere?

oxygen,helium,carbon dioxide,nitrogen

Is carbon dioxide a natural greenhouse gas?

Yes, it is part of the carbon cycle, that moves through the atmosphere and the biosphere.

What planet has a thick carbon dioxide atmosphere?

Venus has the thickest carbon dioxide atmosphere.

What is the role of the atmosphere in the carbon cycle?

Nature produces the vast bulk of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Rotting trees, and dead matter produce over 90% of the current levels of carbon dioxide. Man produces between 3 and 6 percent of all CO2 annually.

How does respiration affect the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere?

Respiration, breathing, has no effect on the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. This is part of the natural carbon cycle. Burning fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas) releases carbon dioxide that has been hidden away for millions of years. This extra gas is increasing in the atmosphere.

Terrestrial planet with a thin carbon dioxide atmosphere?

Mars is the terrestrial planet with a thin carbon dioxide atmosphere. Venus also has an atmosphere of carbon dioxide, but it is very thick.
