Nationally, 16 percent of 16- to 24-year-olds were dropouts.Among the other key findings for Florida:-- 62 percent of these drop outs were male.-- 22 percent were black.-- 29 percent were Hispanic. The Florida Department of Education (FDOE) released graduation and dropoutrates for Florida and the 67 individual Florida school districts. An examination of the data for Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) revealed an increase of 3.8 percentage points in the NGA graduation rate from 73.9 percent in 2008-09 to 77.7 percent in 2009-10. However, BCPS' dropout rate dropped slightly from 2.1 percent in 2008-09 to 1.6 percent in 2009-10. Please note that graduation and drop-out rates are calculated independently. While graduation rates are determined by a four-year cohort of students, dropout rates are determined based on a single year's enrollment in grades 9-12.
