Stem and Roots function in transport of water, minerals, and sugars. ROOTS can perform the job of storing sugars (as in the potato). Roots also perform the task of Anchoring the plant in soil. .

The root has four main functions. The first function is anchoring to the ground is done by root caps that are present at the tip of the root. The second function is the absorption of water and minerals from the ground through osmosis. Vegetative reproduction and storage are the other two functions.
