How do you change the trans axle on a 1958 Volkswagon Beetle?
You are NOT going to "change" the transmission on this car. It's too old. You're going to have to pull your transmission and send it to Rancho Performance Transaxles for rebuilding. If you look in your copy of "How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive," the procedure for getting the transmission out is in there. Basically, remove the engine, then everything connected to the transmission, drain the oil out of it and use a transmission jack to extract the trans from the car.
Is the word transmission and trans-axle the same?
Yes and no. Hard to think of good answer but Trans-axle is where you have the transmission and axle drive unit built into one. Front wheel drive. But you can have a transmissione do both front and also supply power to rear axle, AWD(All Well Drive). 2000 is where everything starts to change, in some vehicles other then P/U trucks still use a regular trans and a transfer case to direct power to the front axle.

How do you remove left drive axle on a 97 Camry?
remove axle hub nut and tie rod to spindle connection. remove sway bar connection to control arm if present. pry/pound/press axle from hub, be careful not to damage threads on axle. Axle should hang loose at this point. Look for any bolts holding axle to trans, but should not be present on this car. Pry on inner part of axle between trans and axle end. Pry hard enough and it will pop out. Pound axle back in from outer end, be careful not to damage the axle and get splines lined up
