1.Carbohydrates(sugars and starch)

carbohydrates are eaten to provide the body with energy. They come in two main types:

Sugars give us instant energy because they are easy to absorb.

Complex carbohydrates(starch) provides us with sustained energy because it takes time to digest and absorb it.

2.Proteins

proteins are eaten to build new tissue and repair damaged tissues.

3.Lipids

Lipids are eaten to provide the body with energy and to insulate the body.

4.Minerals

They help to build certain stuctures in our bodies:-

Iron-this is needed in our blood to help carry oxygen to all the tissues in the body which need it.

Calcium-this is needed to help make our bones and teeth strong.

Iodine-this is needed for making the hormone thyroxine which controls growth and your metabolism.

5.Vitamins

They are necessary for the proper functioning of many reactions in the body:-

VA is needed for healthy skin and eyesight.

VC is needed for keeping the skin and gums healthy and helps in healing and fighting disease.

VD helps us absorb calcium from our food for healthy bones and teeth. Our skin makes vitamin D in sunlight.

6.Fibre

It bulks up our faeces, making them easy to push through the digestive system.

7.Water

Water helps in the digestion of food and it transports materials around our bodies.
