stage 1 labor is signified by restlessness, nesting and a drop in core body temperature (taken rectally) normal is 100-102 F stage 2 labor is contractions and CLEAR discharge, the contractions are visible when the animal lays down and you will see her pushing, there is little to no vocalization, a dog screaming out is not normal. If your dog is pushing for over 30 min without a puppy produced it is an emergency and you need to head to the vet, ER or your regular vet, call first. If your dog is having contractions over 2 hours and not pushing or seeming overly distressed you need to call your vet. If you have smelly discharge, dark green discharge and no puppy shortly before or after, you need to call also, if you have a temperature over 103F you need to go in your dog may have an infection or be working too hard and may be putting the puppies at risk. You may ask others and they may tell you it is safe to wait longer than 2o min while pushing, the reason this is not recommended is that dogs can get a condition called uterine inertia this basically means that after the uterus has worked on contracting so hard, it can no longer do so effectively, if you wait longer you risk this condition meaning your vet will not be able to help your pet with an injection that may increase the intensity of the contractions and may be forced to do a c-section which is much more expensive and can carry risks for the mother and puppies. Hope this helps, good luck!
she will start pacing and looking for a corner in a closet or basement away from people and out of sight to have her kittens. make sure you have a box with a blanket ready for her somewhere in a quiet corner and just put her there and then leave her be. she will have her kittens when you least expect it, also she will clean up after her self. do not worry, it will be ok.
Well they obviously will be fat , they will also ruff up their fur on their bellys although some do this anyway . Guinea Pigs for ever !
a kitten pops out
