2.50 cumulative if transferring 12-23 hours and 2.25 cumulative if transferring 24 or more hours. They may even consider you if you have a 2.00 but you must write an essay and they will look at your pattern of study on your transcripts. 2.8 is not correct unless you are transferring to the college of architecture, you need a 3.0 and for the business school, you need a 2.75

They don't care as much about your GPA as they do about your class rank. Quoted from their web site: Class rank (as reported on your official high school transcript) indicates your ability to keep up with your peers in your given academic environment. Top 10%: Based on Texas law, applicants are offered automatic admission to the university (but not necessarily to a requested major) if they graduate in the top 10% of their class from an accredited Texas high school. Non-top 10% Texas grads and out-of-state applicants: Class rank is a critical academic factor in admission decisions for non-top 10% Texas graduates and out-of-state students as well.

There are not specific requirements for GPA. If you are in the top 10% of your class, you will be admitted. Otherwise they will look at the overall picture of grades, SAT and activities.

What does your GPA have to be?

The requirements for the GPA vary from one school to the next, but of course, you would want your GPA to be as high as possible. If you apply for scholarships, you would have to inquire as to what the minimum GPA requirements are for scholarships you want to apply for. Again, you would want your GPA to be as high as possible, especially since competition would be great.
