English is still the most widely spoken language in all 50 states of the United States of America. Several states do have sizable minorities who have English as a second language or who do not speak English. In all states there are neighborhoods and communities where English is not the most common language, but for the population as a whole, English is still the primary language in each state. Spanish is, by far, the most common non-English language spoken in the USA. This is especially true for the states along the US/Mexico border. The list below illustrates this. Note that California has the most Spanish speakers. New Mexico has the highest percentage of Spanish speakers. Even in New Mexico, however, English is still the most common language.
Also, Puerto Rico - which is a US territory and not a state has about 95% of their population who speak Spanish.
