The advantages of keyboard are: 1. keyboards have special key that proform specific functions. 2. instead of using the mouse to move the cursor you can use the arrow key situated on the keyboard to move the cursor on the monitor. 3. keyboard are less expensive because it comes with every computer. The disadvantages of keyboard are: 1. The person using the keyboard have to learn how to type. 2. The frequent movement from keyboard to move and back could cause carpal tunnel syndrome.

Good typists can type in numbers quickly.

The numeric keypad is dual functioning, allowing you to use it for numbers and also for cursor control, depending on whether Num Lock is on or off.

With Num Lock on, if you hold down the Alt key and type a number between 0 and 255 and then let go of Alt, you will get various keyboard characters. For example, typing 97 will give you "a" and typing 65 will give you "A". 248 will give you ° and 169 will give you ⌐ and 202 will give you ╩ and 148 will give you ö and so on. That can only be done with the numeric keypad, and not the numbers across the top of your keyboard.

Some of the disadvantages are people not being used to it. Forgetting to put Num Lock on means you don't get the numbers. If you are using a laptop, a lot of them don't have a separate numeric keypad, and some of the letters double up as being the numeric keypad which can be awkward. You would need to buy a special numeric keypad to connect to your laptop if you want a separate one. Even when it is on, it will affect the keys on your keyboard that double as the numeric keypad.
